Is fasting relevant today?

Fasting series – part three

Is fasting relevant today? As with other subjects, this is a question that you must answer for yourself in order for you to fully thrust yourself  forward in this endeavor. The apostle Paul made these remarks and it will behoove us to pay attention:

And he that doubteth is damned… for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

Romans 14:23

Anything that you are not fully convinced about, you will eventually walk away from. For some people, healing or prosperity is their particular area that they struggle to believe are still relevant today. As Paul said, ‘He the doubteth is damned’, meaning  you will find yourself in a cycle of failure if you doubt. To be damned here simply means that you are empowered to fail whereas to be blessed means empowered to prosper.

Is fasting relevant today?

You have to answer the question 'is  fasting relevant today?' yourself in order to be fully convinced of its efficiency and potency in your life. However, allow me to assist you with some additional information.

Many view fasting as an archaic practice held by early church fathers and other mystical religions that has no place in Christianity today. Others preach against fasting because they say, ‘We are under grace and there is no need to fast.’ Because fasting is rarely taught today in most churches, many, many believers are oblivious to this marvelous tool of power. So let’s answer this point first. Whenever pastors and theologians don’t like anything, they label it as law and legalistic. The same can be said about tithing, holiness and other subjects. They will shout, ‘fasting has nothing to do with salvation!’ Yes, we all agree with that! Fasting does not save you or sanctify you: that’s the work of  the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

While fasting has nothing to do with salvation, it is still relevant to the believer today because Jesus and others in the Scriptures say so.

The modern church is oblivious to the secret of fasting and consequently this is why much of the modern church is oblivious to the supernatural.

If being powerless and not seeing conversions are of little importance to you then fasting will also not be relevant to you.

Whenever you get tired of not seeing any results, not seeing the supernatural and not seeing what is written on the pages of the Bible translated as realities in your life, that will make fasting relevant to you.

To those who are satisfied with the status-quo, fasting is a relic of the past. For those who want to press into God and see the glory manifested fasting will be revived in their lives.

Is fasting relevant to you? Jesus, our Lord saw the relevancy of fasting so He engaged prior to entering into ministry. Even though He was the Son of God He did not minister as deity upon the earth but as the Son of man anointed by the Holy Spirit. It was after a season of fasting that Jesus declared, 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed to preach the Gospel to the poor and to hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted…' (Luke 4:18). There is a connection between fasting and the anointing and there is a connection between fasting and the release of the supernatural.

Having closely observed those who have walked in supernatural manifestations of the miraculous in their churches and ministries, I have found the common thread of faith, fearlessness and fasting. We see the same thread in the ministry of Jesus, Moses, Elijah, Elisha and Paul. We also saw the same pattern in T.L Osborne, Oral Roberts and A.A Allen, to name just a few.

  • The moment that you realize that you are deficient in Bible Supernatural results then fasting will be relevant to you.
  • When Daniel was frustrated due to the delay of his answer, fasting quickly became relevant and  he destroyed the demonic stronghold and principality opposing his answer from God.

So, is fasting relevant today? If you are tired of things always being delayed in your life, tired of seeing others getting ahead in life, business and ministry while you roam in a cycle of frustration then you will grasp the relevancy and the potency of fasting. It is a potent force to secure answers from heaven and break the spirit of delay.
